From Clay Tablets to Modern Messages: Exploring the Genesis of Writing

Spoken sounds used to express one’s ideas got represented initially through visible signs and then through Cuneiform writing by Sumerians in ancient Mesopotamia more than 5000 years ago!

Ms. Yachana Villaitrani on 08 May 2024 got the History students of class XI to experience writing on clay tablets and re-live the past times in a fun-filled activity. The History buffs, surprised each other by writing “messages of appreciation” using a self created Cuneiform-inspired script in the English language & made each other’s day.

The activity was followed up by sharing of experiences and the challenges of writing on soft clay which enabled students to understand the challenges faced by Mesopotamian scribes back in the olden days.
