Kathak maestro Pandit Rajendra Gangani held the students of classes IX and XI mesmerized with his incredible mastery over taal, laya intricate footwork and expressive storytelling. The event was organized by SPICMACAY which has introduced students across the country to the best of India’s rich heritage of art , dance, music and more.
A renowned dancer and recipient of many awards including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Panditji absorbed the nuances of this complex art form from his father, the revered Pandit Kundan Lal Gangani of the Jaipur gharana. He began with a beautiful tribute to Mahadev, which immediately showcased his artistry. He then explained and demonstrated the importance of the taals through a piece in the rhythmic teentaal. The final piece was a beautiful dance depicting the greatness of the Guru through a melodious bhajan. Panditji was happy to answer the various questions from the students and motivated them to explore the rich traditions of Kathak and other classical art forms. We are grateful to SPICMACAY for enabling students to experience the beauty of this aesthetic and traditional dance style.
